These stuff are not extremely necessary for the main plot though (Different characters and unlinked main plot) which is why you can play Automata without playing the previous or do it the other way around. A lot of stuff can be found that is linked to the previous game which allows for moments of "I KNOW THIS" or "SO THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO IT AFTER XXXX YEARS" for those who played the previous. While not a direct sequel it happens like way way way long after the previous game. The romance probably got blown out of proportion due to it being what most people want and so they interpret it as such.Īutomata is also a sort of a sequel to the previous game (Nier replicant/Nier). It may not even be in the romantic sense, from a different perspective I can see it being familial instead. Regarding the romance, pretty sure there are only like small hints of it in the game. The game goes in the direction of stuff like "What is the meaning of life", "Why are we here just to suffer". Yoko Taro's stories tend to fall on the darker aspects and more philosophical side (Other than the main plot, it can be seen in most of the side quests as well). Well it's not your typical save the world or everything goes good crap for sure. It does have twists from time to time that changes the gameplay with a bigger change happening after starting from the second play through. Well it is a typical hack and slash more on the simplistic side compared to combat systems you can find in like elden ring, the witcher 3, breath of the wild etc. But what i meant was like if they looked like robots (Like the C3PO looking robot you mentioned) instead of looking more human. I take no offense but just for your info i have played my share of games (soulsbourne, monster hunter, assassin's creed, gta V etc) Is this an actual scifi story, or it is just anime? Is the story "good" in the same way people tried telling me Life is Strange or a TellTale game is some "masterpiece"? Or is this another sappy anime tier plot about "what if we're all just feeling robots and here's a romance plot and my adopted sister-niece" type thing?īecause sheesh ten minutes of these reviews makes me want to be insulting. But even then, even with atrocious gameplay or illogical plot, enough people said the story was good, but just reading these reviews I have to ask: The little I did see about it made the gameplay look pretty weak to just outright terrible, seemingly openly bad combat for the sake of a skirt lift. This still seems to be the case and this morning I'll give one shred of benefit of doubt to it still, since I remember so many people trying to claim it was allegedly "deep" back in the day, but then I see well just this forum itself on top of the front page reviews, and it's at best done a massive disservice to the game. > Automata is over represented by 2B's ass, Probably barely worth the effort of spoilering since that much is obvious but may as well not be a ♥♥♥♥ about it. You know, I just was in another thread where the OP asked a very valid question about choking a robot, and your phrasing itself has forced me to ask: these are robots right? I mean in the sense of, it's literally robots and humanity is extinct, basically SOMA tier plot. But having finished the game I can say the story, character development and music alone would keep me playing even if all the characters are replaced with robots. Automata is over represented by 2B's ass, even more so when it was just released.
